NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox University Bruins beat the Lewis & Clark Pioneers for the second time in a row in a hard-fought 3-2 victory to celebrate Senior Night.

How it Happened

The Bruins had to earn the first set, as they lost their lead three times before finally taking the set 22-25.

The second set, while closely contested early on, ended with a 7-point closeout by the Pioneers after a 10-point streak took the Bruins' lead away. The set ended 25-18 in favor of the visiting Pios.

The Bruins gave up a substantial lead to a Pioneer streak for the second time, and despite a valiant effort to hold them off, the Bruins lost the third set 25-21.

However, they began the fourth set in high gear, scoring 5 points before the Pioneers had scored their first. The Bruins kept up the momentum and shut down the Pioneers 14-25.

The Bruins' second wind continued into the final set as they kept the Pioneers at arm's length, taking the final set at 9-15, winning the match 3-2.

Top Performers

Bailey LeBreton made 15 kills tonight, while Laney Search handed out 50 assists. Paige O'Rear made 26 digs.

Celebrating Seniors

The Bruins' 2021 senior class is one of the best in recent history at Fox and was able to celebrate their night with a win. As part of the celebration, each senior wrote and read a letter to their families and coaches that helped them along the way.

What It Means

The Bruins go to 5-2 in their conference slate and 5-3 overall, while the Pioneers go to 5-2 in both categories.

The Bruins will face Pacific (Ore.) in a rematch next week on Friday, April 9.
