Box Score Newberg, Ore. --- In a special celebration of the George Fox Seniors, the Bruins won their senior night battle against the Pacific (Ore.) Boxers by a final of 1-0.
How It Happened
Though the first half ended up with no goals, the excitement and energy on the field were palpable. Both teams were ready to make their mark first with strong plays up the sidelines and attempted crosses, but the defenses held strong. Lindsay Sandy and Maggie Choate both had looks with five minutes left in the half, but their attempts were stifled by two goalie saves.
In the second half, the Bruins looked to be even more aggressive than before and their consistent pressure on the Boxer defense began to show its worth. Early attempts to start the second half in the 18 proved unsuccessful, but each time down the field the Bruins were making progress. In the 76', the ball made its way back into the box, where Maggee Hodgdon played the ball right to Madison Burch. Her quick move created the angle she needed around the goalie and she sunk her shot to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. Pacific fought down the stretch to tie the game, but they couldn't find the back of the net. Burch's goal was all the Bruins needed as they took care of business, winning 1-0.
Top Performers
Burch's goal is her second of the season and sixth of her career. Brandt anchored another complete game shut-out on the back line, giving her 18 over her career. Though Annalisa Klein was not credited with a save, her presence in the box and quick jumps off the line prevented multiple shots on goal from corner kicks.
Their Thoughts
"What a great accomplishment for this team and our seniors to earn another shutout win on senior night," coach Laura Schott said after the win. "Our staff would like to thank the parents, players, and specifically our seniors for a great night at Austin. We are so grateful for you!"
Senior Celebration
The Bruins honored Brandt, Klein, and Chloe Schumaker after the match, all of whom wrote and read letters to family, friends, and coaches to cap their time in the navy, white, and gold.
