NEWBERG, Ore. -- Riding a two-match winning streak after a win against Lewis & Clark, the Bruins hoped to continue their momentum on Friday against Pacific but instead had their winning streak snapped in five sets.
How It Happened
Hoping to continue their streak of hot play, the Bruins came out of the gates hot against the Boxers to take an early lead. After coming out of a late timeout with a 20-17 lead, the Bruins put away the Boxers to take the first set.
After falling behind 8-1 early in the second set, the Bruins used a timeout to reset and refocus. After an early onset of points from the Bruins, the Boxers responded, eventually holding off the charging Bruins to win the second set
The match now even at 1-1, the Bruins tried to gain the advantage early to earn the momentum back. After jumping out to an early lead, the Bruins were unable to fend off the charging Boxers, who leveled the score at 17-all late in the third set. Fox had a rally result overturned late by the up-ref, but the Bruins were able to bounce back and string together some points to gain the momentum and win the set.
Looking to shut the door on the Loggers, the Bruins once again brought the heat in set four. Fox held a narrow 21-19 lead late in a battle of sideouts, but was the Bruins were unable to pull through against the Loggers. Pacific took the lead for good after breaking a 26-26 tie and won the set in extra points, 29-27.
Now down to a winner take all set, the Boxers jumped out to a quick lead, hoping to carry it to victory. Fox charged back and tied the score at 7-7 halfway through the set, leveling the playing field, but after a couple quick points the Boxers reclaimed the lead. After holding off the Bruins once again, Pacific completed the come-from-behind win.
Top Performers
On offense, Kassandra Staton led the Bruins with 25 kills and also notched 18 digs for a double-double. Bailey LeBreton followed with 16. Piper Harrop led the way with 24 digs on defense while Caitlin Nemecek contributed three blocks.
What It Means
The Bruins fall to 9-8 overall and are 6-4 in conference. They'll look to gain back momentum to finish their push through the second half of their of the season and finish out strong.

The Bruins will face Puget Sound next Friday in Tacoma, Wash., at 7:00 p.m.
