NEWBERG, Ore. -- Playing their third game in four days, the George Fox Bruins defeated the Lewis & Clark Pioneers in a non-conference game Monday night, 2-0.
How It Happened
The first half featured excellent defense from the Bruins, who only allowed one shot, with no shots on goal. Fox outshot the Pioneers 11-1 in the half, with five on goal. The Bruin offense looked poised to break through the Pioneer defense as they went into the second half. It didn't take long for that to come to fruition.
Two minutes into the second half,
Cody DeMarino sent a long pass to
Santiago Munevar, who put it into the low right of the net. The Bruins continued to put pressure on the Pioneers, leading to another goal from
Kellin Aguiar in the 57th minute, which added the insurance to take them to the win.
For the game, the Bruins controlled the tempo and possession, shooting 29 times compared to three times for Lewis & Clark. The Bruins added 11 shots on goal. No shots on goal were allowed by the Bruins for the entire game.
Top Performances
Munevarr and Aguiar each had a goal, with assists from
Jeff Friedman and
Cody DeMarino. DeMarino and
Joshua Chang each had two shots on goal. Goalies
Cade Matsumoto and
Keoni Gavino split time in goal to earn a combined shutout.
Coach's Thoughts
"It's always great to have an opportunity to get out and run," Bruin head coach
Paul Karver said, "It was great to get guys some playing time and work some guys back off of injury."

The Bruins improve to 2-7-2 on the year, and Lewis & Clark drops to 0-3.
