NEWBERG, Ore. -- After giving up an early first quarter lead, the Bruins battled back, using a strong fourth quarter to claim their first victory of the season, 55-45.
How It Happened
After getting off to a slow start, the Bruins were unable to overcome an early lead by the Knights. Warner Pacific was able to outdo the Bruins defensively, collecting three steals and six defensive rebounds to keep the ball in the Knights' hands, allowing them to take a 16-8 lead into the second quarter. Â
Knowing they had some ground to make up, the Bruins came to play in the second quarter, outscoring Warner Pacific 14-10 to get back within striking distance after the half. This was mainly due to the Bruins' improved performance around the basket, with five offensive rebounds by four different players to keep the ball in the hands of the offense, allowing the Bruins to cut the Knights' lead in half. Â
After getting themselves within striking distance at the half, the Bruins once again outscored the Knights in the third quarter, draining three triples and shooting 6-11 from the floor. This was enough to push the Bruins past the Knights, but Warner Pacific put up similar stats to put the game in a one point balance, 39-38. Â
The Bruins took over in the final quarter, outscoring Warner Pacific 17-6. The Bruins found their shooting touch, draining three more triples and shooting 5-17 from the field to ensure a commanding victory over the Knights. Along with this, the Bruins also had two steals and eight defensive rebounds to put the ball back in the hands of the offense with opportunities to score. Â
