SPOKANE, Wash. --- The Bruins trailed by as many as seven at one point, but the George Fox women's basketball team rallied when it mattered most and clinched a spot in the 2022 Northwest conference championship with a 57-53 win over Whitworth.
How It Happened
Whitworth tried to set the pace early on and Fox fell behind the Pirates initially as both teams struggled to score the basketball. After the first seven minutes of action, Fox only trailed 7-4 as neither team could hit a shot.
The Bruins trailed 11-7 after the first quarter, but they outscored Whitworth 17-6 in the second quarter after holding the Pirates to a 1-9 shooting performance in the quarter to lead by as many as nine.
Coming out of the half the two teams played it to a draw in the third quarter as each put up 15 points. The Pirates charged back into contention midway through the quarter, but Fox never surrendered its lead and sank its free throws in the closing seconds to clinch the win.
Top Performances
Rachel Parks paced the Bruins by doubling her scoring average with 16 on the night and Ella Roberts put in 12 off the bench. Alyssa Wells, Cassidy Posey, and Jenna Lacey pulled down six rebounds each to lead the team.

What It Means
Fox clinched the final spot in the NWC Tournament with the win and mathematically eliminated Willamette and Lewis & Clark in the process. The Bruins level off again at 12-12 overall and are 8-7 against conference schools with one game left in the regular season.
