NEWBERG, Ore. — The George Fox baseball team traveled to Orange, Calif., to face no. 11 Chapman University and was blanked by the Panthers in its series opener, 4-0.
How It Happened
Sean Wiese got the start and lasted six innings, scattering five strikeouts, eight hits, and for runs in his outing. Only two of the four were earned, but Wiese was tagged with the loss after the Bruins' bats failed to supply run support for the southpaw.
Fox got the Panthers' starter out of the ball game by the third inning, but could not do anything against the relief pitcher Chapman put on the hill. The Bruins had their best chance to score in the first two innings after a Jeremy Sangalang double in the first and a stolen base in the second for Noah Meffert, but Fox could not capitalize in what became a 4-0 loss.
Top Performers
Sangalang's double was the Bruins' lone extra-base hit on the day, and the three looking strikeouts for Wiese were a team high for the game.
What It Means
Fox falls to 5-6 on the year, all of which have been played on the road so far.
Up Next
The Bruins finish the series with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am.
