TACOMA, Wash. --- The George Fox softball team split its conference opener with Puget Sound on Saturday, winning game one 12-1 and falling 13-4 in a pair of run-rule decisions.
Game One
Ashley Davis got the start and pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts, an earned run, and four hits mixed through her five innings in the circle.
Fox provided plenty of run support for their senior starting arm. Each side tallied a run apiece in the first before Fox ripped off 11 unanswered with nine hits and two UPS errors. Kimberly Pulido doubled two home in the second, Claire Fountain homered in the third, and the Bruins put the game out of reach in the fourth with seven runs for the 12-1 final. Kamryn Potter got a two-RBI single to drop in center field, Fountain doubled in Potter, and Katie Ladd lifted a three-run shot out of the park before Sharon Tomei capped the run with an RBI single into left field.
Game Two
Everything went the Bruins' way in game one and that flipped in game two. UPS built a 5-0 lead by the third inning and Fox was unable to close the gap at any point in the shortened game, plating two runs apiece in the third and fifth innings. Fountain and Allisa Yabumoto each notched RBI singles in the third, and a two-RBI double from Sydney Sandifer plated Tomei and Yabumoto, but the damage had already been done by the Loggers. UPS scored seven in the fourth and Fox committed four errors in the field to split the afternoon with its host in a 13-4 loss to close the day.
Top Performances
Fountain was 3-4 in game one with three RBI, a homer, a double, and a stolen base, while Tomei went 2-3 with a double and a run scored in game two. Davis finished the day with 11 strikeouts after entering in relief midway through the second game.
