FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- While facing their strongest Northwest Conference rival, the no. 23-ranked Pacific Boxers, George Fox was able to come away a winner with a 6-3 final on the road.
How It Happened
The Bruins got two match points in doubles from their first and third matchups. Will Leach and Luke Lemaitre won 8-3 and Camden Camacho paired with Vahag Pashayan at no. 3 doubles to earn an 8-3 victory. Rox Rogers and Luis Rojas nearly completed a sweep of doubles in an 8-7 final that went to the Boxers.
Leach also won his no. 1 singles match with a 6-1, 7-6 final and Rogers grabbed a singles win in the no. 3 battle with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 grind. Pashayan defeated his fifth flight singles foe 7-5, 6-3, and Camacho capped it with a win via retirement after leading 6-4.
Coach's Thoughts
"Lots of credit to the Pacific team today for a battle," coach Jeff Cero said. "Mason Tran played lights out against Luke. Overall, our guys came ready to play, and we were able to go into their place and get a hard-fought win.
"Will and Vahag did an incredible job today, and Rox battled out a close one against a quality opponent in Quentin González. We have a lot of growing points, and it wasn't our best tennis of the season, but we competed well and got the job done."
What It Means
Fox improves to 5-1 on the year and is undefeated atop the conference leaderboard, while the Boxers' hot streak was briefly snapped with their first NWC loss of 2022.
