FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- The Bruins' offense opened up just before the storm clouds closed in on Saturday, Mar. 12, and Fox's softball team run-ruled the Pacific Boxers 13-0 before the final game of the series was rained out.
How It Happened
Ashley Davis earned her ninth win of the season and pitched her third complete-game shutout in the 13-0 rout. The senior scattered four hits, a walk, and a strikeout through the outing and kept the Boxers off-balance all afternoon.
Fox loaded the bases to start the game, and Ashley Sansoni drew an RBI walk to force in what would be the winning run as Sydney Sandifer trotted home for a 1-0 lead.
Fox stranded the rest of the runners in the first, but they added two more in the second after a Kamryn Potter RBI single landed in left center, giving Emma Classen and Brooke Riggins enough time to cruise in for a 3-0 lead.
Both teams were scoreless in the third frame as Fox kept the Boxers quiet once again.
The floodgates opened fully in the fourth as Fox plated 10 runs in the inning, batting through order once and making it more than halfway through a second time with five hits, multiple hit-by-pitches, and a Boxer error.Â
Potter doubled, Sharon Tomei & Kimberly Pulido both singled, and the Bruins stayed disciplined at the plate with multiple walks and hit-by-pitches en route to running up a 13-0 total after four innings. Both teams were scoreless in the fifth but the game was well in-hand by that point for Fox.
Top Performances
Claire Fountain wore three pitches in a single game, Potter doubled and drove in four runs, Classen scored three runs, and Sandifer drew three walks to lead the plate performances. Davis earned her third win of the series in the circle with the complete-game shutout.
Coach's Thoughts
"We are still figuring ourselves out a little and we have work to do, but it was great to get three wins this weekend," coach Jessica Hollen said after the series-clinching victory.
What It Means
Fox has won its second NWC series and will need to find a midweek slot to finish it out against Pacific (Ore.) while improving to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in conference action.
Up Next
A possible midweek makeup of the rainout is in the works, but the Bruins' next series against Linfield in Newberg is locked in for Mar. 19 & 20.
