NEWBERG, Ore. --- George Fox lacrosse stayed perfect in the 2022 season with a win over Willamette at home, 12-5, after getting a five-goal performance from Carleigh DeLapp.
How It Happened
Both teams entered the matchup as unbeaten opponents, but the Bruins were able to use their depth to get the win.
The two sides tested their keepers early and often in a low-scoring first quarter, but after 15 minutes Fox led 3-2 with goals from Olivia Geyling, Bailey Faust, and Carleigh DeLapp.
Fox scored six unanswered goals in the second quarter to notch a 9-3 lead at the break after DeLapp added two more, Geyling found the net, and Marena Tharpe, Andrea Garcia-Milla, and Kyra Barnes added one each. Ella Rand earned her fifth win of the season after standing strong in goal with six saves against eight shots.
Garcia-Milla also opened the second half with a goal to make it 10-3, and DeLapp bookended a pair of Bearcat scores to finish the day with a 12-5 final.Â
Top Performances
DeLapp equaled Willamette's output by herself and didn't turn the ball over while putting eight of ten shots on-frame. Garcia-Milla registered another hat trick in assists with three dimes and scored twice, while Hayley Hensley forced three turnovers. Barnes did a little of everything with a goal, five ground balls, four draws, and two caused turnovers.
