NEWBERG, Ore. --- George Fox women's tennis hosted two matches and split its doubleheader with a 5-4 win against NWC foe Pacific and a 7-0 loss to NCAA DI opponent Montana.
Match One
The Bruins got one win out of its doubles pairings after Ellie Mangan and Abigail Bond swept their no. 3 matchup with an 8-0 win. Cassey Hitch and Kalli Wiker put up a good fight in their second doubles match with an 8-6 final.
With Pacific ahead in the match, 2-1, after doubles play ended, Fox was able to pull out the win with four singles victories, including two in tiebreak. Emily McDonald won the no. 5 singles duel 6-1, 6-1 to tie the match and Brenna VanderYacht's 6-2, 6-4 win at no. 6 singles gave Fox an edge. The Boxers jumped back in front with wins at no. 1 and no. 2 singles, but Wiker won her no. 3 singles matchup with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 final to tie it at 4-4. Olivia Morris battled for just over three hours to earn a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory at no. 4 singles to clinch the win.
Match Two
After a grueling matchup against a conference opponent, the Bruins did their best to compete with NCAA DI foe Montana. The Grizzlies won the doubles point to start out with a 1-0 lead and worked their way through many of the Bruins' singles matchups in short order, but there were bright spots to build on even in the 7-0 loss.
Wiker went to tiebreak in a 6-1, 2-6, 0-1 (6-10) loss at the no. 2 singles matchup, Morris fought her way to a 2-6, 3-6 final, and in doubles the tandem of Morris and Danielle Brown forced the issue with a 4-6 defeat.
What It Means
Fox is now 5-4 on the year with its first conference win against Pacific.

The Bruins have another doubleheader on the docket against Willamette and Concordia Texas. Fox will play the Bearcats in Salem before returning to host Concordia Texas on courts 4-6 of the Bruins' Multi-Use Facility.
