Bruins Split Doubleheader, Defeat Pacific At Home

NEWBERG, Ore. --- George Fox women's tennis hosted two matches and split its doubleheader with a 5-4 win against NWC foe Pacific and a 7-0 loss to NCAA DI opponent Montana.

Match One

The Bruins got one win out of its doubles pairings after Ellie Mangan and Abigail Bond swept their no. 3 matchup with an 8-0 win. Cassey Hitch and Kalli Wiker put up a good fight in their second doubles match with an 8-6 final.

With Pacific ahead in the match, 2-1, after doubles play ended, Fox was able to pull out the win with four singles victories, including two in tiebreak. Emily McDonald won the no. 5 singles duel 6-1, 6-1 to tie the match and Brenna VanderYacht's 6-2, 6-4 win at no. 6 singles gave Fox an edge. The Boxers jumped back in front with wins at no. 1 and no. 2 singles, but Wiker won her no. 3 singles matchup with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 final to tie it at 4-4. The Grizzlies won the doubles point to start out with a 1-0 lead and worked their way through many of the Bruins' singles matchups in short order, but there were bright spots to build on even in the 7-0 loss.

Wiker went to tiebreak in a 6-1, 2-6, 0-1 (6-10) loss at the no. 2 singles matchup, Morris fought her way to a 2-6, 3-6 final, and in doubles the tandem of Morris and Danielle Brown forced the issue with a 4-6 defeat.
