HILTON HEAD, S. C. --- George Fox women's tennis team earned its eighth win on Friday to kick off its South Carolina spring break trip with a 5-4 win over Ithaca (N.Y.).

How It Happened

Fox started in a 2-1 hole after Ithaca won two of the doubles matchups, but the Bruins avoided the sweep after Abigail Bond and Ellie Mangan grabbed an 8-3 win in the third doubles matchup.

The Fox players showed their resilience in singles and scratched from behind to grab the victory after winning four of the six battles in singles play. The Bombers took courts one and six but the Bruins won the other four courts to seal the team victory.

Mangan grabbed the first singles win on court two with a 6-1, 6-3 finish to make it 3-2 for the match score. Kalli Wiker's 6-1, 6-4 win on court three knotted the match at 3-3, and Olivia Morris and Emily McDonald each forced and won their third set tiebreaks, 1-0 (10-8), to win the match, 5-4.

What It Means

Fox improves to 8-4 overall and the Bombers drop to 6-2.

The Bruins' second match of the day against Asbury was rained out and will not be made up, so the next time Fox is on the court they will face NCAA DII opponent Slippery Rock on Mar. 19.
