NEWBERG — The George Fox baseball team fell 5-4 at home against Lewis & Clark on Sunday afternoon as Pioneers took game three of the NWC series.
How it Happened
Lewis & Clark took an early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning off of Bruins' starter Ben Wills. The Pioneers extended their lead to 4-0 after the top of the second on a double that scored two more. George Fox's batters found their footing in the bottom second, recouping a run on a Mason Eastman base hit that scored Spencer Roos and cut into the Pioneer lead 4-1.
Roos and Eastman would get things going again in the bottom of the third inning. Roos' base hit with a pair of runners on base scored Brandon King to make it 4-2. Eastman followed that up with another base hit to score Shane White and make it 4-3 Lewis & Clark.
Both squads' bats were quiet until the seventh inning, when Lewis & Clark's Jac Thompson homered to make it 5-3. George Fox responded in the bottom of the frame with a sacrifice grounder from White to cut the deficit back to one.
The Bruins had base runners on in the bottom of the eighth but were unable to cross home again and fell by a final margin of 5-4 as the Pioneers claimed the series two games to one.
