HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- The George Fox women's tennis program snapped a two-game losing skid with a 7-2 win against Augustana (Ill.) on Monday, Mar. 21, at the PTR Spring Tennis Fest.
How It Happened
George Fox got out to a hot start in doubles play with two wins against the Vikings. Olivia Morris and Danielle Brown battled well in an 8-6 loss at no. 1 doubles, and the Bruins' no. 2 and no. 3 tandems each earned wins to give Fox an early lead. Kalli Wiker and Cassey Hitch won, 8-4, on court two, and Emily McDonald and Brenna VanderYacht swept on court three with a quick 8-0 victory in a half-hour of action.
In singles, the Vikings' no. 1 was able to take a win from Brown after a good battle, but the rest of the Bruins' singles matchups all came up as Fox wins.
VanderYacht was the first to finish and needed less than an hour to complete a 6-0, 6-0 sweep on court five. McDonald notched a quick 6-2, 6-0 win on court four, and Abigail Bond clinched the team win officially with a 6-3, 6-0 win on court six. Wiker won 6-3, 6-2 playing up at court two, and Morris finished the day with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court three to cap the match.
What It Means
Fox improves to 9-6 on the year and has already matched its 2021 win total with a month still remaining on the regular season schedule, while Augustana falls to 5-10 on the year.
