NEWBERG, Ore. --- George Fox lacrosse notched a milestone victory in an 18-1 final on its home field against Pacific on Apr. 13.
On April 20, 2016, the Pacific Boxers defeated George Fox, 15-10, in a Northwest Conference matchup on the Boxers' home field. Almost six years later to the day, Fox defeated the Boxers, 18-1, in their 50th consecutive conference victory.
After finding their rhythm early in the first quarter, the Bruins were able to put in eight goals by the end of the period. Fox never looked back from there. While possession time is not an official NCAA stat, the Bruins possessed the ball for roughly 85% of the game and rarely allowed the Boxers to cross the midline. Fox forced Pacific into 33 turnovers and only allowed the Boxers to clear successfully twice in 24 attempts. Ultimately, Pacific only took one shot in the last seconds, and found the net for their lone goal as time expired.
Coach Katie Brand mixed her lineup throughout the game to give players a chance at various positions on the field, allowing defenders to try their luck on coast to coast attempts and giving her student athletes experience at multiple levels of the field. Multiple players notched 'firsts,' including a Maxine Parkin assist to Payton Bergren in a defender-to-defender give and go on a fast break.
Coach's Thoughts
"Jenna and I are really proud to be a part of a program where the players have worked hard year in and year out," coach Brand said after the game. It was exciting to be there tonight and think about all the people that have come before us— players, parents, and coaches, that have all contributed to this milestone."
Top Performances
Even while playing conservatively on offense, the Bruins put 33 of their 37 shots on goal. Marena Tharpe scored five times, Carleigh DeLapp scored four goals and dished two assists, and Andrea Garcia-Milla scored twice and dished four dimes.
While she wasn't wearing a Bruin uniform, the Boxers' keeper merits a shout-out here as well. Pacific played two short all night with only 10 players available, and the Boxers' keeper, Amelia Haindl, made 15 saves and knocked down multiple passes as Fox attempted to feed attackers on the crease.
What It Means
Fox improved two 13–0 on the year and is 7–0 against conference opponents with three games left in the regular season.
Up Next
