TACOMA, Wash. --- No. 16 George Fox men's tennis kept its unbeaten NWC streak alive and well with a clean 9-0 sweep of Puget Sound on the Loggers' courts in a Friday evening matchup at The Barn.
How It Happened
George Fox got off to a good start with three quick doubles matches. Will Leach and Luke Lemaitre set the tone with an 8-2 win on court one, and the duo of Rox Rogers and Ryan Olson won 8-4. On court three, Camden Camacho and Vahag Pashayan reunited to win, 8-4, and finish the doubles sweep.
Alle Banna saw time at no. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win and Rogers notched a clean sweep on court three in singles play with 6-0, 6-0 scores to move the match along and clinch a team win. Lemaitre also got a clean sweep on court two, and Leach polished off his no. 1 opponent with a quick 6-3, 6-0 win. Playing up at court four, Camacho collected a near-perfect 6-0, 6-1 victory, and Olson closed out the Loggers playing up on court five in a 6-2, 6-0 final.
Coach's Thoughts
"The singles effort was really strong coming out of the doubles, and guys did a great job capitalizing on some good momentum," coach Jeff Cero said of the match results. "Hopefully we can keep it rolling against PLU tomorrow."
What It Means
The Bruins are now 13-5 on the year and a perfect 7-0 in conference matchups with a single match remaining. With the win over the Loggers, Fox has formally clinched at least a share of the Northwest Conference regular season title by virtue of its head-to-head win over Pacific earlier this year and also should guarantee their right to host the conference tournament next week.
Up Next
Fox finishes its regular season with a tilt at Pacific Lutheran on Saturday, Apr. 16. A win cements Fox as sole NWC champions and undisputed tourney host.
