PORTLAND, Ore. --- The George Fox men's tennis program got back to its winning ways on Saturday, Apr. 2, with a clean 9-0 sweep of the Pios in Portland.
How It Happened
Fox started the sweeping win with a quick showing on the doubles courts, surrendering just four points in all to the Pios' doubles tandems. Will Leach and Luke Lemaitre won, 8-2, while the duos on courts two and three both won, 8-1, to finish the doubles sweep.
Coach Jeff Cero was able to scramble his lineup and get time for his reserves while still completing the sweep.
Rox Roger played up on court two and won, 6-0, 6-0, to set the tone for singles play. Olson played all the way up on court four and also won in short order, 6-1, 6-0, and Lemaitre defeated the Pios' no. 1 singles player with a 6-3, 6-1 final.
Camacho played up to court five and won, 6-0, 6-1, and Alle Banna saw time at the Bruins' no. 6 spot with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Vahag Pashayan was ahead on court three, 7-6 (9-7), 4-0, but the Pios' no. 3 had to stop play and Pashayan won via retirement.
Coach's Thoughts
"We played with a lot of great energy from beginning to end," coach Cero said. "It's a nice way to start off the month of April and we're looking forward to playing against Linfield tomorrow."
What It Means
Fox improves to 10-5 overall and 5-0 against NWC foes with four matches left on its regular-season schedule. The win is also a career milestone for Cero, as he notches his 25th win as a head coach at Fox with the victory. "All the credit goes to the guys - they're the ones that go out and put in the work," coach Cero said of the milestone. "Let's hope for many more for the program!"Â
