NEWBERG, Ore. --- George Fox lacrosse remains unbeaten in 2022 after dropping the Whitworth Pirates, 21-2, on their home turf in the Austin Sports Complex.
How It Happened
The Bruins explored a new starting lineup and took a few minutes to find their rhythm, but Fox never trailed and was able to build a 9-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes. Carleigh DeLapp, Andrea Garcia-Milla, Kyra Barnes, Marena Tharpe, Sydney Thatch, and Hayley Hensley all scored at least once in the quarter, including a beautiful coast-to-coast clear and finish for Hensley's first goal of the season. Fox also scored twice while play down and didn't allow Whitworth to score in their extra-woman chances.
By the end of the first half Fox had built a 15-1 lead and cruised through a running-clock second half to notch a 19-goal victory in just over 90 minutes of real-world time.
Top Performances
Ella Rand made two saves, called a good game from in goal on defense, and picked off a few Whitworth passes to shut down the Pirate attack as a keeper. Tharpe scored five goals and also dished three assists for a double hat trick and eight points, while Barnes and Thatch also joined Tharpe with at least three goals apiece.
What It Means
Fox is well on its way to another undefeated regular season with only a handful of matchups remaining on the regular-season slate at 10-0 and 5-0 in conference. The victory over the Bucs is also a career milestone for Coach Katie Brand, giving her 50 victories in her five seasons with a .877 winning percentage and a 50-7 record to date.
Up Next
With its Whitman matchup postponed indefinitely, the Bruins turn their attention to next weekend with a two-game set at home against Linfield and Puget Sound.
