NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox lacrosse team stretched its winning streak to 11 matches after defeating Yamhill County rival Linfield, 19-6, at home on Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
Linfield was able to hang tight in the first quarter despite struggling to clear its own defensive end, and after 15 minutes of action Fox led, 6-3.
The Bruins used a pair of shutouts in the second and third quarters to widen the gap and led, 12-3, at halftime.
A goal in the opening moments of the second half turned on the running clock for good as the Bruins notch their third six-goal period of the afternoon while holding the 'Cats scoreless once again.
The Wildcats outscored Fox in the final quarter, 3-1, but their rally fell well shy of the mark as the Bruins swept the season series.
Top Performances
Carleigh DeLapp led the team with seven total points, scoring five times and dishing two assists. Marena Tharpe and Kyra Barnes tied with six points each, and in goal, Ella Rand was a wall in the first half. The senior registered multiple point blank saves, including against free position attempts, and finished with a game-high seven stops despite only playing 30 minutes.
What It Means
The Bruins are now 11–0 overall and 6–0 against conference opponents, while the Wildcats fall to 7–5 overall and drop below. 500 and Conference place.
