MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The George Fox baseball team traveled to finish a home-and-away series with the Western Oregon Wolves on Tuesday, Apr. 5, and battled their way to a 3-2 loss in extra innings.
How It Happened
Fox got on the board first with two runs in the fourth to break a scoreless tie after three frames. Tyler Durant singled into left field, Shane White moved him to third with a double to right, and Derek Williams chased both runners home with a two-RBI double into left field for the early 2-0 lead.
The Bruins' pitching staff kept the game scoreless through five frames before the Wolves finally answered back to tie it at 2-2.
Both teams kept stranding baserunners and the game stretched into the tenth inning. Brandon King singled into right field and stole second but he was left standing there again at the end of the inning. In the bottom of the tenth, WOU used back-to-back doubles with two outs to walk it off, 3-2, in extra innings.
Top Performances
Led by Noah Meffert's two scoreless innings of relief in the eighth and ninth, the Bruins' bullpen combined for eight shutout innings. Alex Abbott struck out four in his 1.2 innings on the mound, and the back-to-back doubles from White and Williams were the Bruins' best outburst on offense on the day. Breyndon Nakamura went 3-5 as the leadoff and stole two bases but Fox was unable to score him on the day.
What It Means
The Bruins fall to 17-16 overall with the loss and were unable to take either game off of the Wolves in their 2022 series.
