NEWBERG, Ore. — The Bruins are entering their second season as an Esports program and have already experienced rapid growth and early successes through their debut season in 2021-22.
The 2021-22 NECC Championships brought a trio of Top 3 finishes for Fox as the Bruins' League of Legends (LoL) Academy team won the Junior Varsity National Championship, while the Varsity LoL squad and Rocket League (RL) Academy team finished second and third, respectively.
The opportunity for further success will only grow for Fox as the program adds four new titles to the mix. In addition Rocket League and League of Legends, the Bruins will also compete in Valorant, Overwatch, Apex Legends, and Super Smash Brothers.
"It is great to expand our competition portfolio in Esports here at George Fox," said coach Miles Dean. "We saw tremendous success in our first season winning an NECC National Championship last year.
"This not only helps us add more student athletes but gives us more opportunities to clinch another national championship in other game titles. We are really excited to this upcoming season and looking to continue that same success that we generated last year."
The 2022-23 season will also feature expanded competition in terms of rosters, towers, and console stations. Fox will now have 30 MSI gaming tower setups to go with six console stations — two each for PS5, Switch, and Xbox X — for its 51 team members and six student staff to use for competition and live streaming on the Bruins' Twitch feed.
