NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox women's volleyball team completed a three set sweep on Wednesday against Pacific, moving to 7-2 on the year and into a second place position in conference play.
How It Happened
The Bruins started the first set neck and neck with the Boxers, matching the scoring till about the five point mark. After this, the Bruins outscored the Boxers 10-5 for the next 10 points, resulting in a five point Bruin lead heading into the latter stages of the set. Though the Boxers attempted a late comeback, the Bruins maintained a large lead, winning the first set 25-17.
Looking to keep the momentum rolling, the Bruins got off to a hot start once again in the second set, using multiple runs of four unanswered to take an early lead and keep the Boxers in a hole. Once again, though the Boxers tried to get themselves within striking distance down the stretch, it ultimately came up short, resulting in the Bruins taking a 2-0 lead with a final score of 25-18.
Piper Harrop, fresh off of recording her 1000th dig over the weekend, dazzled with several diving daves.
With their backs against the wall, the Boxers came out with a little more aggression than previously. Though the Bruins took a big lead early, the Boxers battled back late, bringing themselves within two points with less than five points to go. However, three critical points to finish the set put the Bruins ahead at the buzzer, taking advantage of Boxer errors to get the sweep.
