McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The George Fox football team ran into a buzzsaw in No. 5-ranked Linfield, falling to the Wildcats, 41-13.
How It Happened
The Wildcats jumped out quickly, embarking on a strong opening drive that found the end zone in four minutes. The Bruin offense struggled against a strong Linfield defense, with a botched snap on a punt aiding the Wildcat attack. At the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats led 14-0. In the second quarter, Linfield outgained Fox 163-47 to take a commanding 35-0 lead into halftime.
Tayler Saben had the highlight of the day for the Bruins, returning the opening kick of the second half 87 yards to the house, beating the Linfield kicker in a narrow foot race to score Fox's first touchdown of the day. The Bruins outscored the Wildcats in the second half, holding Linfield to a pair of field goals.
The Bruins opened up the passing game in the fourth quarter, throwing for 148 yards in the period — including a massive 75-yard connection between
Max Richey and
Dillan Dobbins for Fox's second touchdown of the day. With time winding down, the Bruins saw several players get some career milestones;
Chavis Lee recorded his first career catches, while
Ethan Bullock picked up carries. The Bruins' loss, 41-13, was the closest any NWC opponent has gotten this season.
