Fox Continues Hot Streak With 3-1 Takedown of Whitman

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The George Fox University women's volleyball team continued their dominant play today with a 3-1 victory over Whitman to move to 9-2 in conference and second in the NWC.

How It Happened
The Bruins got off to a scorching start, outsourcing the Blues 10-4 through the first ten points.  They did not take their foot off the gas, outsourcing the Blues 15-12 from there on out to decisively take the first set and get the momentum on their side.

The second set was much like the first, with the Bruins jumping out to a large lead in response to the Blues scoring the first point.  After out-scoring the Blues 15-7 through the first 15 points, the Bruins didn't let up, closing out the set with a 25-16 victory to take a 2-0 lead.

Looking to avoid the sweep, the Blues kept the match much closer.  Though the Bruins got off to a hot start and built an early lead, the Blues managed to bounce back and overcome the deficit, eventually winning the set 25-19 to collect their first victory of the day.

Looking to complete the victory, the Bruins battled the Blues for the entire set before emerging victorious.  Though the Bruins had the lead for most of the set, the Blues were never more than a couple points behind, keeping the pressure squarely on the Bruins.  However, time eventually ran out on the Blues, and the Bruins won their third set by a score of 25-17 to record their ninth conference victory.

Top Performers
Addison Robertson and Taylor DeKoning led the offense for the Bruins, collecting 11 kills each, while Kennedy Kibby kept the ball in place for the scorers, racking up 37 assists over the course of play.  On defense, Piper Harrop kept the ball off the floor with 23 digs, while Olivia Robertson, Addison Robertson, and Kassandra Staton all recorded a block apiece.

Coach's Thoughts
"I was really impressed with our offensive statistics tonight," Bruin head coach Emily Davis said, "Whitman battled hard in the 3rd set and our players responded well in the 4th. It's always hard to play on the road so I'm grateful we walked away with the W."

What It Means
The Bruins move to 13-5 overall and 9-2 in conference, and hope to improve that on Saturday against Whitworth.

What Happens Next
The Bruins square off against the Whitworth Pirates tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. in Spokane, Wash.
