NEWBERG, Ore. – Coming in with a four-game winless streak, the George Fox women's soccer used three second-half goals to overcome a halftime deficit and take down the Willamette Bearcats, 3-1.
How It Happened
The first half was a defensive slugfest for both sides, as the two teams shot a combined six shots in the period and just three shots on goal.
Taylor Ho had a shot off the post in the twelfth minute, and
Allison Weber had two shots that were saved by the Bearcats keeper, but neither side scored for the first 43 minutes; the Bearcats broke the scoreless tie with a corner-kick goal with time running out in the half. The Bruins went into halftime down despite having more shots on goal than Willamette.
In the second half, the Bruin offense began to capitalize on their scoring opportunities and find the back of the net. A throw in the 51st minute set up
Hannah Beardemphl for her first goal of the game, scoring off an assist from Alison Weber. The Bruins continued to be relentless in their attack on the Bearcats goal, scoring again in the 62nd minute after a corner kick dropped in by
Alexis Breer and put in by Weber. Weber's goal was her third shot on goal on the day, and gave Fox a 2-1 lead. Beardemphl scored one more time in the 72nd minute to pad the GFU lead, this time scoring off her own rebound. The Bruins only allowed one shot by the Willamette side, compared to nine shots they took themselves.
