NEWBERG, Ore. — After jumping out to an early lead, the George Fox Women's Soccer Team rode a one point lead to victory over the Pioneers to earn their second straight win.
How It Happened
The Bruins got the action started early on, with
Taylor Ho finding the net in the 19th minute after an assist from Alison Weber. This was the only goal scored in the first half, though each team recorded multiple shots. However, led by a save from
Emily Robey shortly after taking the lead, the Bruins defense held fast, ensuring a one point advantage heading into the second half.
The Pios came out swinging in the second half, recording two shots in the first five minutes, but neither found home, keeping the Bruins lead intact. Though a couple shots from each team threatened to change the scoreboard, the Bruins defense held strong till the final minute, sealing a shutout of the Pios and securing their second win in a row.
Top Performers
The Bruins lone goal came courtesy of
Taylor Ho, and their assist from Alison Weber. Ho's goal was one of four shots for the day, three of which scared the goal. Six other players recorded at least one shot, ensuring that the offensive aggression kept the pressure on the Pios. On defense,
Emily Robey recorded three saves on the day to keep the Bruins on top.
Coach's Thoughts
"One of our most complete games, good energy throughout," said Bruin head coach
Laura Schott, "Especially good performances from Taylor, Alli, the back line, and Emily in goal. It was great to see the youth and the more experienced players perform so well together."
