Tense Match Against Lewis and Clark Ends in Stalemate

NEWBERG, Ore. – Despite outshooting Lewis and Clark 8-1, the George Fox men's soccer team was unable to break through for a goal, with the match ending in a scoreless stalemate.

How It Happened
The Bruins applied offensive pressure from the opening whistle, dominating both the ball control and field position early in the game. Kilinahe Waring put a shot on goal in the third minute, followed by two more shots from the Bruins within the next ten minutes. By the 30th minute, Fox had rattled off six unanswered shots, yet the Pioneers defense held firm.

The next best chance for the Bruins came after Lewis and Clark's lone shot for the game missed right, when Quincy Walker fired a kick at the low center. However, it too was saved by the Pioneer's goalie, and the teams entered halftime in a scoreless tie.

The second half saw a shift in dynamics, with the tempo of the game slowing significantly as the Pios stacked the box. The Pioneer offense continued to struggle against the Bruin backline and though Fox moved the ball downfield well, they were also unable to put together any threatening attacking plays, failing to record a single shot in the half. The game eventually ended in a tie with the scoreboard frozen, 0-0.

Top Performances
Junior Connor Kong led the way for the Bruins with three shots on the day, while Joshua Chang, Kilinahe Waring, Quincy Walker and Matthew Woodard each recorded one shot on goal.

Coach's Thoughts
"Massive credit to Jim, the staff and the players for the work they put in this evening," said Bruin head coach Paul Karver, "They have gotten better every game this year and they deserve to get points this evening. We need to do a better job of scoring the opportunities that we create and then things are very different, gotta score goals to win games and we didn't do that this evening."

What It Means
Fox moved to 5-10-2 (4-7-2 NWC) on the year, while Lewis and Clark picked up their first draw of the year to sit at 0-16-1 (0-12-1 NWC).

What Comes Next
The Bruins will look to secure a road win this Saturday in their matchup against the Puget Sound Loggers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Tacoma, Wash.
