McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The George Fox Bruins' volleyball team won its game against the Linfield Wildcats in three sets, dominating the Wildcats for the second time this season.
How It Happened
The first set was all Bruins, jumping out 4-0 early, which would only get larger as the set went on. The Bruins went on a 9-0 run to take their lead to 20-8. An
Olivia Jacobsen kill ended the set, with Bruins crushing the Wildcats 25-11 in the first frame.
The Bruins could not carry the momentum over into the second set – at least at first. The Bruins came out slow, and found themselves down, 10-7. The Wildcats seemed unfazed by the lopsided first set, and looked poised to take the second set and even the game. The Bruins responded though, and would storm back and take the lead, 12-11, after a kill from
Kassandra Mendenhall. The Bruins would take a four point lead – 17-13 – but a four point run from the Wildcats would tie the set once again at 17 all. After some back and forth action, Fox found themselves down by one, 23-22. Fox responded by scoring three straight points to win the set, going into the third set with a chance to sweet.
The Bruins Jumped out all over the Wildcats in the third, going up 7-3 in a blink. Linfield responded with a short spurt of points to bring themselves with a couple of points, but Fox went on another run – capped with a
Taylor DeKoning kill – to go up 14-7. Fox dominated the entire back half of the set, eventually winning the frame by a score of 25-13. The first and third sets of the Bruins were some of their finest work of their impressive season, as they gave their NWC rivals no breathing room. Fox won the game with a three set sweep, 3-0.
