CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The George Fox men's basketball entered Saturday on a four game win streak, but a cold shooting half against Pomona-Pitzer let the Sagehens pull away in the second half of a 79-65 Bruins' loss.
How It Happened
The Bruins defense was on full display in the first half, as they held the Sagehens to below 50% from the field for the first 20 minutes. The Sagehens led the Bruins for the first eight minutes, but an
Austin Clark three gave Fox a 13-12 lead, their first of the game. Pomona responded with a brutal 11-2 run to put the Bruins behind, 23-15, but the Bruins wouldn't fall away — they pulled within one bucket multiple times before the half ended.
At the end of the half, the Bruins would be down four, 36-32, after shooting just 41% from the field. The Bruins' saving grace in the first frame was their three point shooting, making six threes and shooting 40% from behind the arc as a team. A trend the Bruins would not be able to continue in the second half, which hurt them.
The Bruins' second half shooting woes wouldn't start right away, as they opened with a run that put them up by one point, 39-38 — a run that was capped off by a
James Moore three-pointer. The Sagehens responded to the Bruins with a run of their own, scoring ten unanswered points over the next 1:55 minutes – a stretch in which the Bruins went 0-4 from the field, including two missed threes.
Fox battled back to within five with 11 minutes left in the contest, 55-50, but they couldn't pull any closer. The five point difference would be the closest the Bruins would be for the rest of the contest, as Fox went cold from the field while Pomona-Pitzer used the offensive glass to overwhelm the Bruins. The Sagehens' largest lead of the night came with four minutes left, as Fox found themselves down fifteen points, 70-55. The Bruins used the final minutes of the game to get some younger players some on-court action, before the game ended with GFU losing, 79-65. The Bruins shot just 34.4% from the field in the second half, including going 3-17 from three.
Top Performances
Charlie Powers led the way for the Bruins in the scorers sheet, scoring 16 points in the contest with a team-high four triples.

Coach's Thoughts
