NEWBERG, Ore. -- After picking up their first win over Whitworth since 2014 the day prior, the George Fox men's basketball team ran into a strong Whitman team, losing 68-91
How It Happened
Fox kept things close in the initial minutes, tying the game at 10 six minutes in off of a
Kade Sorenson layup. But after a layup by
Chris Nickelberry with 9:32 remaining, the Fox offense fell silent. The Bruins failed to score on their next 10 possessions as the Blues lead ballooned from 24-15 to 44-15. The 20-0 run was part of an extended 36-5 run for Whitman; at the half, the Bruins trailed by 30, 23-53.
Despite the score,
Maco Hamilton's squad brought the energy in the second half, ramping up the intensity. The Bruins outscored Whitman in the half, 45-38, in an uber-intense period that featured five technical fouls. After shooting 26% in the first half, Fox shot 56% in the second. Even though the game was out of reach, the Bruins' intensity continued until the waning moments, as Fox worked hard to force five turnovers in the final two minutes of the game.
