CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The George Fox softball team started their Saturday with a close win against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, before dropping the second game to go 1-1 on the day.
Game One
After giving up a run in the bottom of the first, Fox loaded the bases off of a single and two hit-by-pitches. Catcher
Sydney Sandifer doubled to clear the bases, scoring three on the swing. The Bruins scored again in the third when
Mikaelie Sullivan homered in the first at-bat of the inning — the second for Sullivan in the young season. Later in the same inning,
Emma Classen singled to bring in another run and make the score 5-1.
Starting pitcher
Kami Gibson went five full innings, striking out three and giving up three hits. The Sagehens scored runs in the bottom of the third off of a single, and one apiece in the bottom of the fifth and seventh on two more RBI singles.
Emma Eastman came in during the sixth inning, pitching two frames and picking up the save as the Bruins won game one, 5-4.
Game Two
Pomona Pitzer's Devin Waddell was lights out on the mound in game two, holding the Bruins to just three hits over seven innings and no runs as Fox lost, 4-0, to split the series.
GFU pitcher
Ashley Davis pitched well, going the full game for the Bruins, but three runs in the sixth after loading the bases doomed the Bruins, making the game 4-0 heading into the Bruins' last at-bat. Fox went down 1-2-3, ending the game at 4-0.
Top Performances
Sydney Sandifer blew the first game open with a three-run RBI double. while
Mikaelie Sullivan went 3-6 on the day, with a home run.
Kami Gibson threw five full innings allowing three earned runs, and
Ashley Davis went six innings allowing four.
Emma Classen also pitched in an RBI.
Coach's Thoughts
"We definitely, have a few things to work on, but we're excited to play tomorrow," Coach
Jessica Hollen said on the game.

The Bruins are now 2-2, an identical record to the Sagehens.

The Bruins conclude their California swing by facing off against Whittier College Poets on Sunday. The first game starts at 11 am, and the second game is scheduled for 12:30 pm.
