AUSTIN, Texas -- After dropping their first game against Concordia Texas the day prior, the George Fox baseball team stole nine bases and scored 12 runs on Sunday, winning, 12-6, to split the two-game series with the Tornados.
How It Happened
Right away, the Bruin bats were hot —
Jeremy Sangalang opened the game with a double, then proceeded to steal third. Two at-bats later
Brandon King singled to score Sangalang, giving the Bruins the early lead.Â
Concordia scored two in the bottom half of the first inning to snag a 2-1 lead, to which Fox responded with three runs in the top of the second. Following a double steal by
Jared Miller and
Evan Balingit, Sangalang singled to right field to score both runners. Sangalang then showed his speed in style, stealing second, then third, and scored on a throwing error to give GFU a 4-2 lead.Â
The Tornados tied the game in the bottom of the third at 4-4, but the Bruins quickly responded yet again. In the top of the fourth with the bases loaded in the fourth, King picked up another RBI on a fielder's choice that scored Miller. After that,
Spencer Roos singled to bring in two more runs to take back the lead and make the score 7-4.Â
The Bruins would have a huge inning in the seventh, scoring four runs on three hits, the highlight a Balingit double that scored two. Fox took a commanding 11-4 lead with just three at-bats left for Concordia. Concordia managed to score two in the eight, but nothing more. Fox added another run in the ninth for good measure, winning the game 12-6 as
Spencer Johnson closed out the game in the ninth.
