NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's lacrosse team stormed to victory in their first game of the year, notching a 21-2 victory over UPS in snowy conditions to start their season.
How It Happened
After the game was delayed one hour due to the weather, the Bruins scored within the first 30 seconds to set the tone and never led up till the final second ticked away. After going almost six minutes without tacking onto their opening goal, the Bruins began to heat up, scoring seven goals in the final nine minutes to take an 8-0 lead into the second quarter.
The Bruins continued to tack on in the second quarter, scoring half the points of the first half but continuing to hold the Loggers to a scoreless half. The Bruins once again scored early in the second quarter, then twice quickly in the middle, and then added one more in the closing minutes to extend their lead as the running clock began.
The third quarter was similar to the first, with the Bruins beginning to run away with the game after adding seven more points to their tally. Fox scored often, with the longest gap between scoring being a five minute gap between the twelve and seven minute marks.
Ava Bluhm had the goal of the game, with a wormburner that put the ball past the Logger goalie.
After pitching a shutout all game, the Bruins gave up two points in the closing quarter, but matched that with two of their own. After scoring in the 11th minute, the Bruins tacked on another with a littler under six to go, and after giving up two points late to the Loggers, capped off a 21-2 victory.
