WALLA WALLA, Wash. — After another high-scoring game, the George Fox women's lacrosse team took down an upstart Whitman squad, remaining undefeated with their 22-13 win over the Blues.
How It Happened
Though the Blues kept things close early on, cutting the early Bruin lead to one six minutes into the period, Fox recovered en route to a 10-5 first-quarter lead. The Bruins used their aggression on offense to jump out to the lead, outshooting the Blues 13-8, with seven different players scoring.
The Bruins continued their bombardment in the second quarter, once again keeping the offensive output high. The Fox women outshot Whitman 9-5 — with both of the Blues' goals coming after the visiting Bruins had amassed a nine-point lead.
Lana Davis,
Carleigh DeLapp,
Lyla Roy, and
Kyra Barnes all found the back of the net in the quarter.
Outscoring the Blues 5-3 in the third quarter, the Bruins turned on the running clock after a goal by
Marena Tharpe midway through the period. Fox took a 21-10 heading into the final quarter, a quarter that saw Fox take their foot off the gas in the fourth — Whitman outscored Fox 3-1. The Bruins coasted in the fourth, walking away with a commanding 22-13 win.
Top Performances
Lana Davis led the way for the Bruins offensively, scoring four goals on seven shots.
Marena Tharpe also scored four goals right alongside her teammate, doing so on six shots.
Kyra Barnes and
Carleigh DeLapp contributed with three goals apiece, while goalie
Emma Webb finished with eight saves.
What It Means
Fox remains undefeated on the year (5-0, 5-0 NWC), while the Blues move to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
