Bruins Stay Undefeated With 24-5 Blowout Over Whitworth

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The George Fox women's lacrosse made quick work of Whitworth on Sunday afternoon, blowing by the home Pirates, 24-5.

How It Happened
The Bruins scored within the opening two minutes for the fourth time in six games, with Ava Bluhm striking first with a goal just 70 seconds in. The Bruins quickly struck again, winning the draw control and scoring within 10 seconds on a Kyra Barnes strike. The Pirates recovered, though, scoring the next two to tie the game, 2-2.

From there, it was all Bruins. Over the next two and a half quarters, Fox controlled nearly every facet of the game, outscoring Whitworth, 21-1. Seven different players scored a goal during that time frame, racking up the stats — in the game, the Bruin women outshot Whitworth 42-12, with 33 of their shots on frame.

Defensively, the Bruins forced 10 more turnovers than their opponents and picked up 17 ground balls, not allowing a goal for nearly 30 minutes. Running clock began in the second quarter for the Bruins, who scored seven or more goals in the first three periods. Fox let off the gas in the fourth quarter, with Whitworth scoring two goals to add to their total in the waning minutes. Lana Davis finished the game in style with a goal in the final seconds of a 24-5 Bruin victory.

Top Performers
Carleigh DeLapp ran the show for the Bruin offense, tallying two goals and a career-high eight assists to five different players. DeLapp's eight assists are good for third all-time in the program record books. Bluhm led the way with five goals, while Olivia Geyling totaled four goals and three assists. Davis, Barnes, Marena Tharpe, Morgan Maxfield, and Ana Flores all scored for Fox.

Coach's Thoughts

The Pioneers, who qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2021 out of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, will also face Linfield and Puget Sound on a Pacific Northwest road trip.
