TACOMA, Wash. -- George Fox baseball played the final game of their three-game series against the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes, losing a high-scoring affair, 8-12.
How It Happened
PLU struck first in the bottom half of the first, scoring three runs, but Fox escaped the inning with three runners still on base, giving them a chance to respond while the game was still close. GFU did just that with a run in the second, scoring off a
Jared Gee double. The Lutes scored two more in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead, 5-1.
Fox scored two runs in the fourth off back-to-back RBI singles, bringing the score to 5-3 in favor of the Lutes, but PLU added another two runs in the bottom half of the same inning — expanding the Fox deficit, 7-3.Â
The Bruins exploded for five runs in the sixth inning, scoring off a
Jonathan Stone double, a
Jared Whitaker double, followed by the third double of the frame from
Matthew Sebolsky. After the RBI-filled inning, Fox was in front, 8-7, and had taken the momentum. A Lutes home run tied the game, knotting it up at 8-8 and slowing the Bruin charge.
PLU struck the final blow in the seventh inning, driving in four runs to put Fox behind, 12-8. The Bruins couldn't find a way to respond in the last two frames, a 12-8 loss in the game and a 1-2 loss in the series for the Bruins.
