BOISE, Idaho -- The George Fox men's tennis team faced their final of three straight D-I opponents, ending Monday morning with a 4-0 loss against the University of Montana.
How it Happened
In doubles, the Bruins would see two of their doubles team lose by a score of, 6-2. The #2 team of
Eli Mizerski and
Austin Stone was in a close match, leading Fernando Perez and Guillermo Martin, 4-3 before their match was left unfinished. The match was left unfinished because of a division I rule clinch rule. The Griz would pick up the doubles point and this rule would come into play during singles.
Moving into singles the Bruins were able to grab a few sets from the Grizzlies. In his match
Austin Stone went down in the first set, 6-2, before coming back and winning the second set, 6-4, the match was left unfinished before they could begin their third set. On court 4, Lars Schamassmann was keeping it close but dropped the first set, 6-4, before the match was left unfinished in the second set, while Schamassmann was down, 2-1. In the #6 matchup,
Hunter Fujimori won his first set by a score of, 6-3. Fujimori was leading, 3-2, before his match ended early.
Coach's Thoughts
"I thought we competed well; playing until a clinch can be tough, as we had some great play from the guys that went unfinished," Bruin head coach
Jeff Cero said, "I thought we learned a lot and gained some invaluable experience, especially for the younger guys. We're pretty excited to get back, train, and prepare for the second half of our season."
What It Means
Fox is now at a record of 5-9 overall, while the Grizzlies move to 9-6 on the season.
What Comes Next
The Bruins return home to play an NWC matchup against the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, April 1st. The match is set to start at 11:00 AM at the Multi-Use Facility.
