NEWBERG, Ore. — The George Fox women's lacrosse team put together yet another dominant performance, defeating tough non-conference opponent Chapman 20-8 on Wednesday night.
How it Happened:
George Fox came out of the gate hot, needing only three minutes to score their first goal and set the tone for the game. A converted free position shot by
Lyla Roy was quickly followed quickly by an unassisted goal from
Marena Tharpe; by the eighth minute, the Bruins had established a 2-0 lead. Chapman responded with a goal of their own, but at the end of the quarter, the Bruins had pulled away, 6-1.
The Bruins took this confidence into the second quarter, putting up eleven shots on goal while holding Chapman to only two. Six different Bruins players found the net in this quarter alone, the charge led by
Kyra Barnes who scored a hat trick within the span of three minutes. The Bruins took a commanding 15-3 lead into the half.
The Panthers attempted to close the gap in the third quarter, outscoring the Bruins, 3-2, for the only time in the game to bring the score to 17-6. Fox refused to let Chapman back into the game with disciplined defense in the fourth quarter and their lethal offense continued, converting all five shots on goal. The Bruins kept the pressure on right til the final whistle, with
Carleigh DeLapp converting on a free position shot in the final seconds to solidify the 20-8 victory.
