TACOMA, Wash. – The George Fox women's lacrosse team scored eight goals in the first quarter against the Puget Sound Loggers on their way to their eleventh victory in as many games, winning, 21-5.
How It Happened
Ava Bluhm scored two goals in twenty seconds to open the game, giving the Bruins a 2-0 lead with 14 minutes left in the first quarter. A free position attempt just a minute later eventually resulted in another goal for Fox, this one from
Lana Davis. Fox got another free position goal from
Kyra Barnes to make the score 4-0. Later in the quarter,
Ava Bluhm scored her third goal of the quarter and Fox tacked on another three goals in addition to Bluhm's three. Fox gave up a goal to the Loggers at the two-minute mark as they ended the quarter up, 8-1.
Marena Tharpe scored an unassisted goal to start the second quarter, increasing the Bruin lead to 9-1. After Davis forced a Loggers turnover,
Ana Flores scored another goal for Fox, followed by goals by Tharpe, Barnes, and Flores once again, Fox was leading, 13-1. Puget Sound scored in the final minutes of the game, and the Bruins went into the half up, 13-2.
GFU had their lowest-scoring quarter of the game in the third, scoring just three goals compared to the lofty numbers of the other quarters — the goals coming from
Morgan Maxfield,
Sasha Thayer, and
Carleigh DeLapp. Two Loggers' goals were scored in the frame, and heading into the fourth Fox led, 16-4.
Davis scored her third of four goals to start the Bruins' offense up four minutes into the fourth quarter. Another Maxfield goal one minute later put Fox up, 18-4. DeLapp kept the intensity up with another goal that forced the Loggers to take a timeout. Bluhm and Davis each scored once more, and a final goal from Puget Sound resulted in the final score of 21-5 as the Bruins improved to 11-0.
Top Performances
Ava Bluhm scored five goals on six shots, including a hat-trick in the first quarter.
Lana Davis scored four goals and picked up an assist as well.
Marena Tharpe led the team in assists with three, and scored two goals of her own.
Morgan Maxfield scored three goals and had one assist.
What It Means
The Bruins have now won 11 straight games this season and sit at first in the conference with a record of 11-0 (9-0 NWC). The Loggers are now 3-6 (2-5 NWC).

Fox takes a break from conference play and travels across the country to play two games against schools in Pennsylvania, the first game coming against Bryn Mawr at 4:30 pm EST (1:30 pm PT).
