Big Second Quarter Helps Fox Secure 11th Win

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – In their lowest-scoring game of the season, the George Fox lacrosse team still exploded for seven goals in the second quarter against Bryn Mawr, winning their first of two Pennsylvania games this week, 13-5.

How It Happened
Olivia Geyling started the Bruins' offense early, scoring the first goal of the game just over a minute into the first quarter. After a few minutes of back-and-forth between Fox and the Bryn Mawr Owls, the Owls tied all up at one goal apiece. The Bruins scored two goals in thirty seconds – both coming from Kyra Barnes – to close out the first quarter on top, 3-1.

Fox then erupted in the second quarter, netting seven goals while allowing just one from Bryn Mawr. The Owls scored their lone second-quarter goal at the 13-minute mark, to which Fox responded with a goal of their own from a free position goal from Barnes – her second free position goal of the day. Geyling netted her second goal of the game minutes after, pushing the Bruin lead to 5-2. Lana Davis, Ava Bluhm, and Marena Tharpe all scored as well, with Davis scoring twice before Geyling scored again. The result of the flurry of goals was a 10-2 GFU lead going into the half.

Each team added one goal in the third quarter – Fox's came from Bluhm on a man-down goal – and then each team scored twice in the fourth. The Bruins' two goals in the fourth quarter both came from Tharpe, who became the third player from GFU to have a hat trick in the game. The tie score for the second half resulted in the Bruins picking up the victory, 13-5.

Top Performances??
Marena Tharpe stuffed the stat sheets with three goals, five ground balls, and an assist in an impressive day for the junior. Kyra Barnes had a hat trick, as did Olivia Geyling. Ava Bluhm and Lana Davis scored two goals each.

What It Means
Fox remains perfect on the year, sitting at 11-0 (8-0 in NWC play). The Owls fall to 5-3 (0-1 in the Centennial Conference).

What Comes Next
The Bruins continue their east coast trip on Thursday, March 30, with a game against Cabrini University. Play starts at 3:30 pm EST (12:30 pm PT).
