ORLANDO, Fla. -- The George Fox women's tennis started their first two of five non-conference matchups in Orlando, Fla., taking on Trinity (Conn.) and St. Lawrence.
How It Happened - Trinity (Conn.)
To start in the doubles matches,
Cassey Hitch and
Kalli Wiker lost, 8-2. The #2 doubles team of
Ellie Mangan and
Olivia Morris and the #3 duo of
Arianna Rader and
Brenna VanderYacht were able to get points, but lost both matches, 8-3.
In singles, the Bruins worked to secure a few games across all of the matches, with two of them staying very close. In the #5 matchup,
Cassey Hitch kept her game close, losing, 6-3, 6-4.
In the tightest match of the morning,
Abigail Bond stormed back after dropping the first set, 6-1, to come back and win the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6. The match would remain close, with Bond competing with Elise Brennan to the wire. In the end, Bond fell just short of victory, losing in the third set 11-9.
How It Happened - St. Lawrence
With a quick turnaround between the matches, Fox returned to the court just minutes later to face off against the Saints. In this second match of the day, the Bruins found themselves sticking close with the Saints in doubles.
To kick off doubles on court one,
Cassey Hitch and
Kalli Wiker battled to keep it close before losing, 8-3, While
Ellie Mangan and
Olivia Morris teamed up in the #2 position but lost, 8-4. The #3 team of Ari Rader and
Brenna VanderYacht lost by the same score, 8-4.
On court one,
Kalli Wiker was able to pull out to a 5-0 lead in the second set after losing the first, 6-3. Wiker continued to stay ahead and won the set, 6-1, before losing in the final set, 10-4.
After not playing in the morning match,
Sophie Denham jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set on court 6 before losing the first set, 6-4. Denham was unable to get the win in the second set. In the final set, Denham was able to win the third set by a score of, 10-4.
In the longest match of the afternoon,
Stephanie Ramirez Barreto would start out with the win in the first set, 6-4. The second set would go back a forth with Ramirez Barreto losing, 7-5. In the final set, she just missed out on the win, losing, 11-9.

The women's tennis team ends the day with an overall record of 5-6, going 0-2 on the day. Trinity improves to 5-3 and St. Lawrence goes to 4-3.
What Comes Next
The Bruins will continue to play in Orlando tomorrow with two additional matches against Wisconsin-Eau Claire and St. Olaf. Those matches are set to start at 6:00 AM and 10:30 AM, respectively.
