McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The George Fox women's lacrosse team made quick work of the Linfield Wildcats on Saturday afternoon, launching out to a 13-2 first-quarter lead and never looking back in their 24-8 win.
How It Happened
Fox hit the ground running, scoring in the first 50 seconds on a goal from
Marena Tharpe. Just 20 seconds later, Tharpe found a cutting
Carleigh DeLapp for the second goal of the day, swiftly followed by an
Olivia Geyling goal another 20 seconds later. After 90 seconds of play, the Bruins had three shots, three goals, and no turnovers.
The Bruin offense continued the constant attack, scoring on 76% of their shots in the quarter. When all was said and done in the first, Fox had already triggered a running clock, leading the Wildcats 13-2. In the first three games in the young season, the Bruin women have outscored their opponents 29-4 in the first quarter.
The second period started with more of the same as
Sasha Thayer finding the back of the net off of an
Ava Bluhm pass. After a whirlwind first 20 minutes that saw the Bruins go up by 14, neither team scored for the remainder of the quarter. Fox got several good looks at the goal but had three shots saved by Wildcat goalie Tenley Hodge. At halftime, the Bruins led 16-2.
Fox jumped out to a 16-point advantage in the second half, leading 20-4 before letting off the gas. Linfield scored six goals over the final two quarters to the Bruin's eight.
Ana Flores recorded the second goal of her career and first of the season much to the delight of the Bruin bench, scoring with 9:59 remaining in the game. Bluhm tacked on the final two goals for Fox as they left McMinnville with a 24-8 win.
