NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox women's lacrosse continued their blazing start to the season, beating the Pacific Boxers at home, 19-2.
How It Happened
The Bruins needed to wait a little longer for their first goal in today's game — with 8:54 left in the first quarter,
Kyra Barnes found
Lana Davis, who was able to get the goal to put the Bruins up, 1-0.
Ava Bluhm found the net next, putting Fox up, 2-0, with a goal just seconds later; the goal was Bluhm's team-high fifteenth goal of the season. Fox put away three more goals in the first period to take a 5-0 lead into the second.
The Bruins were able to grow their lead from 7-0 to 9-0 when
Morgan Maxfield scored consecutive goals in just over five minutes with her fifth and sixth goals of the season.
Just before halftime, Fox tacked on one more goal by
Kyra Barnes to put her team up 10. The 10-point lead turned on the running clock, but it didn't last long as the Boxers quickly scored to make it 10-1 with less than 90 seconds left in the half. The Boxers were able to add a second goal quickly with just 48 seconds left in the half, and the Bruins went into halftime with a 10-2 lead.
Fox didn't waste any time responding in the third, jumping out to an 11-2 lead with a goal from
Carleigh DeLapp. In the second half, the Bruins locked down defensively — Pacific did not score another goal the rest of the game, only shooting five shots in the second half, with just one on frame.
After scoring five goals in the third period, the Bruins went into the fourth up 15-2. Fox Continued to add to their total with four additional goals in the fourth period, with the final goal coming from Bluhm in the waning seconds to give Fox the 19-2 win. By the end of the weekend, the Bruins outscored their opponents 43-10.
Top Performers
The Bruins spread the goals across the entire team, with eight different goal scorers. Six of those goal-scorers logged at least one assist as well.
Kyra Barnes continued her stellar start to the season, with three goals and four assists. Bluhm added to her team-leading 17 goals, with three more on Saturday.
