PORTLAND, Ore. -- After starting the game two 25 hours earlier on Friday, the George Fox softball team finally finished their game against Lewis & Clark after multiple rain delays, winning 9-6.
Game One
On Friday, the Bruins could play just two innings before play was suspended for the day when the rain wouldn't stop. Before the rain halted play, the Bruins jumped out to a six-run lead by the end of the first inning.
First up to bat on Saturday, Kamyrn Potter hit a double to right center field, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. After a couple of walks, Fox would have the bases loaded.
Reagan Medina came up to bat and drew the third consecutive walk; this brought in the first run of the inning.
Mikaelie Sullivan would successfully bring in another run on a sacrifice fly. After one more walk,
Ashley Sansoni would hit a four-run home run to left field, bringing the lead to 6-0. The Bruins would force the Pioneers to make a pitching change to close out the inning.
As the rain started to fall in the second inning, Fox struggled with control of the ball. After errors and two wild pitches, the game was suspended, and the teams would have to resume on later Saturday.
The scoreline would remain the same until the fifth inning when
Emma Classen walked,
Kimberly Pulido singled to left center field, and then Potter hit a home run. The inning would end with the Bruins up, 9-1. Lewis and Clark would counter with runs of their own, scoring one run before
Emma Eastman came in to relieve
Kami Gibson. The Pios would score two more runs before Eastman struck out Sam Gildersleeve.
The Bruins could not score another run in the game but held off one final comeback attempt from the Pioneers in the bottom of the seventh inning. Fox would wrap up the game late into the afternoon with a win, 9-6.
Top Performances
Kami Gibson and
Emma Eastman would combine for seven strikeouts over the two days.
Ashley Sansoni would have 4 RBIs off her home run, and
Kamryn Potter would have three and one home run.
