TACOMA, Wash -- After spending time in Florida, The George Fox women's tennis team returned to the Pacific Northwest to face Northwest Conference opponent University of Puget Sound, winning, 9-0.
How It Happened
The Bruins would win all three doubles matchups, with
Cassey Hitch and
Olivia Morris beating their opponents, 8-3. On court 2,
Abigail Bond and
Elizabeth Cook would win by the same score, 8-3. The third match would be won via a forfeit as the Loggers didn't field a number three doubles team.
On the singles side, the Bruins would see the same success. Starting off,
Kalli Wiker would sweep Paige Shinall in less than one hour, 6-0, 6-0. Two matches would see the Loggers only winning one game apiece.
Arianna Rader gave up one game in the first set before winning, 6-1; Rader would then sweep the second set, 6-0.
Brenna VanderYacht swept Zoe Ritcher, 6-0, in the first set and later won the second set, 6-1. Just like in doubles, the Loggers would have to lose the final point since they failed to field a player for the number six singles match. Fox would come out on top, beating the Loggers 9-0.
Coach's Thoughts
"The girls played a solid match. They jumped out early and didn't let up which was good to see," Bruin head coach
Rick Cruz said, "Our goal is to continue to get better next week."
What It Means
The Bruins are now 6-8 overall and 2-1 in Northwest Conference play, while the Loggers fall to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in NWC.
