PORTLAND, Ore. -- After losing game one of their doubleheader, 8-7, the George Fox softball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win, 3-2, and take the series, 3-1.
Game One
The Pioneers scored three runs in the first inning off of a three-run home run and grabbed another run in the second to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. The Bruins would make a pitching change in the third inning, with
Emma Eastman would enter the game for
Jenna Kister. Eastman would be able to get two strikeouts in the third inning and close the inning.
The Pios kept the Bruins without a baserunner for the first four innings, extending their lead to seven before Fox found their bats in the fifth.
Sydney Sandifer and
Reagan Medina singled to start things off before
Aliya Harmon hit a three-run home run, to cut the deficit to 7-3. The Pios got their final run of the game to take an 8-3 lead at the end of the fifth inning.
As the lead-off hitter in the sixth inning,
Kamryn Potter hit a solo home run. The Bruins would pull even closer in the seventh inning when
Brooke Riggins hit a three-run home run of her own. The run would end there as the Bruins could not get the tying run, losing the game 8-7.
Game Two
The scripts would flip in game two, as Bruin pitcher
Ashley Davis would not allow a hit until the third inning. Lewis & Clark would score two runs in the inning from a two-run home run before Fox would take one back with
Emma Classen scoring off a sacrifice fly by
Brooke Riggins.
Similar to the first game, Fox came out swinging in the sixth inning.
Aliya Harmon doubled to right field, before
Brooke Riggins hit her second homer of the day, this one a two-run bomb to put the Bruins up. 3-2.
Heading into the seventh inning, Fox looked to add on a run to cushion their lead. The Bruins loaded the bases later with a Kamryon Potter single up and walks from
Sharon Tomei and
Emma Classen, but the Pios ended the inning with a strikeout. Closing out the game, Davis didn't allow a hit in the final inning, earning the win, 3-2.
Top Performers
Brooke Riggins had two home runs and six RBIs on the day.
Ashley Davis pitched a complete game and had nine strikeouts in game two.
Coach's Thoughts
"Lewis and Clark is a tough team, very tough offensively," Bruin head coach
Jessica Hollen said, "We fought in both games. It was great to be able to win the series."
What It Means
The Bruins currently sit in second place in the conference with their 23-13 record (16-8 NWC). Lewis & Clark is now fifth in the NWC at 18-16 (10-14 NWC).
What Happens Next
The Bruins head out on the road to Spokane to end the regular season with four games against Whitworth. Game one of the series is set to begin at 12:00 pm Saturday.
