NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox men's tennis team returned to the Multi-Use Facility to play Pacific in a battle of undefeated NWC teams; Fox successfully defeated the Boxers in a possible championship preview, 6-3.
How It Happened
On court one, Senior
Camden Camacho and
Vahag Pashayan fought it out with the number one doubles team for Pacific — Fox would come up just short after forcing a tiebreaker, losing 8-7 (8-0).
Hunter Fujimori and Lars Schmassman won against their opponents, 8-5. The duo of
Austin Stone and
Eli Mizerski also grabbed the win, 8-3. The Bruins would head into singles play leading, 2-1.Â
Fox would look to hold on to that lead as they headed into singles. Mizerski and Pashayan would face tough competition in the number one and two spots, with Pacific's Mason Tran was able to win against Mizerski, 6-1, 6-3. Pashayan grabbed multiple games off of Quentin Gonzalez, but fell, 6-3, 6-3.Â
The Bruins could grab four wins in the number three through six singles matches, seeing Stone and Camacho win by the same scoreline, 6-1, 6-2, with Camacho's win coming on his senior day. Fujimori would win easily by the score of, 6-1, 6-1, and on court six, Schmassmann won, 6-4, 6-2. Those four wins secured the victory for the Bruins, keeping them in first place in the conference at 6-0.Â
Coach's Thoughts
"I thought we played fairly well across the board, but could've done better as a whole," Bruin head coach
Jeff Cero said, "Props to Mason and Quentin, who played great doubles and singles today."
What It Means
The Bruins improve to a 9-9 record overall with a 6-0 mark in Northwest Conference play, while the Boxers fall to a 9-5 overall record and 5-1 in NWC on the season.Â

The Bruins head on the road to play their last regular season match on Sunday and look to clinch the Northwest Conference trophy at Willamette. That match is set to start at 11:00 AM.Â
