NEWBERG, Ore. -- Though they trailed in both games, the George Fox softball team shut down the Willamette Bearcats late, hitting seven total home runs in their 6-3 and 7-1 wins.
Game One
Ashley Davis got the start on Senior Day, pitching a complete game. The Bearcats struck first, with Brianna Majo doubling off of Davis in the first inning to give Willamette a 1-0 lead. Senior
Kamryn Potter quickly returned the favor with a home run to tie the game at one apiece, from there, Davis locked down on the mound, not allowing a baserunner in the next four innings.
Neither team managed to score in the next two and a half innings before the Bruins broke things open with a massive two-out rally in the fourth.
Sydney Sandifer and
Aliya Harmon hit back-to-back bombs, while both
Kimberly Pulido and Potter brought in runs as Fox extended their lead to 6-1.Â
Willamette cut the lead to three after scoring two late runs in the sixth, but Fox held off the Bearcats to clinch the series and earn their first win of the day, 6-4.
Game Two
The second game of the day started eerily similar to the first. The Bearcats once again took a 1-0 advantage thanks to an RBI double, this time snagging the lead in the third. Once again, the Bruins countered quickly, scoring two runs on three hits in the next half inning — with the second pair of back-to-back home runs of the day. This time, it was Potter and
Sharon Tomei who gave Fox the 2-1 lead.
This time, though, the Bruins slowly added to their lead, scoring in each remaining inning to win the game, 7-1.
Emma Classen picked up her second home run of the weekend, while Sandifer and
Claire Fountain added homers as well.
Jenna Kister and
Kami Gibson gave up just one run, with Gibson not allowing a hit in her two innings pitched.
Top Performers
