BOISE, Idaho. – The George Fox men's tennis team continued day two at the Dar Walters Invite hosted by Boise State, picking up strong wins in both doubles and singles play against Division I opponents.
How it Happened
The duo of
Hunter Fujimori and
Zach Moore started the day for the Bruins, putting together a doubles win, 6-2, against Idaho State. Heading into singles, Moore won his match, taking the first set, 6-3, and winning in the third set after saving two match points. The final score was, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (9). The two will play for ninth place on Sunday.
The second win of the day came when
Eli Mizerski and
Nanase Ebisu defeated Boise State's Teague Burger and Liam Toroman, 2-1. Starting strong, the team would get the win in doubles, 6-4. Sophomore
Eli Mizerski won his singles match, 7-5, 6-4. After going 1-1 on Friday, Mizerski and Ebisu will play for fifth place on Sunday.
The third team to play on Saturday was
Alle Banna and
River Apatu. After losing the doubles match, 6-3,
River Apatu secured his first collegiate singles win against Idaho's Alexander Asenov, 6-3, 7-5. Banna kept his match close but could not win in the second singles match, losing 6-3, 7-5.
Coach's Thoughts
"Eli has been showcasing how much progress he has made this summer with his game. It's been fun to watch him showcase it with some big wins; huge honor to win against a BSU team anytime, and hopefully, they can do it again tomorrow," Bruin head coach
Jeff Cero, "Zach and Hunter played some very good doubles to start the day, and Zach battled through a few rough patches to pull out a tight win."
What It Means
The Bruins will head into the final day of the Dar Walters Invite Sunday. Mizerski and Ebisu play for fifth place, and Fujimori and Moore play for ninth, match times are to be determined.
